Luanda, Angola: The Executive Director of AFRIPOL Dr. Tarek A. Sharif participated at the 23rd Annual General Meeting of the SARPCCO Chiefs of Police, held from 28 to 31 May 2018. 

The meeting offered the opportunity for the Executive Director to update SARPCCO Chiefs of police on the progress made in the implementation of the 3-Year Work Plan of AFRIPOL. It also enabled the region to assess the progress made so far on the work of AFRIPOL.

Algiers 05th may 2018; INTERPOL President Mr Meng Honguei, visited AFRIPOL headquarters, and was briefed on AFRIPOL activities, priority areas and programs.

Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, Director General of the Algerian National Police (DGSN) and President of AFRIPOL General Assembly and Dr. Tarek A. Sharif, Executive Director, welcomed Mr Meng.   

 

 

Mr Meng reiterated his support to the work undertaken by AFRIPOL, to enhance the capabilities of African police agencies of African Union members States.  

 

The President of INTERPOL paid his respect on behalf of INTERPOL, at AFRIPOL memorial for police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

 

AFRIPOL had the first training of the Heads of AFRIPOL National Liaison Offices at its headquarters from the 11th to 15th March2018.

The objective of the training was to introduce the focal persons who are in charge of the AFRIPOL National Liaison Office on their key tasks and responsibilities with respect to the effective functioning of the office. The workshop was also an opportunity to orientate the participants on the operationalization of the African Police Communication System (AFSECOM).

The participants also shared their experiences and made suggestions on how to strengthen the channels of communication between national police agencies within the framework of AFRIPOL.

The training coincided with the visit of H.E.Moussa FakiMahammat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission to AFRIPOL. The Chairperson was accompanied by H.E. Smail Chergui, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security. The delegation was received by H. E. Major General Abdelghani Hamel, President of the AFRIPOL General Assembly.

During this visit, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, learned about AFRIPOL activities since its establishment and AFRIPOL communication system (AFSECOM).  The Chairperson applauded AFRIPOL's efforts and emphasized that AFRIPOL was established to enhance African police capacities to fight organized crime in the continent.

For his part, General Major Abdelghani HAMEL, President of the AFRIPOL General Assembly was pleased with the progress of the training, exchanged views with the participants and reiterated the importance of AFRIPOL. The participants also seized this opportunity to thank the Chairperson of the AUC and the President of AFRIPOL General Assembly for all the efforts they are making to fulfill the objectives of AFRIPOL.

Dr. Tarek A. Sharif, The Executive Director of AFRIPOL closed the session by emphasizing on the important of the exercise in enhancing the capacities of the participants to tackle the various threats and challenges posed by transnational organized crime in all its forms including terrorism to the security and stability of Africa.

Algiers, Algeria, 03 March 2018: The Euro-Mediterranean Police Cooperation for Citizen Security (EUROMED) in collaboration with African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) and the Algerian Police Directorate General of National Security, held its 3rd Police exchange meeting for EUROMED Police IV project from 27 February to 1st  March 2018, at AFRIPOL headquarters in Algiers-Algeria.
