From 4-5 December, AFRIPOL Secretariat organized the third meeting of the AFRIPOL National Liaison offices (NLO) in Algiers, Algeria. The training was officially opened by Dr. Tarek A. Sharif, the Executive Director of AFRIPOL. Dr. Sharif emphasized on the important role that the NLO will play in enhancing AFRIPOL to deliver on its mandate.

The training targeted seven (6) member States of the African Union they include the following: Benin, Cap Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Seychelles and Sudan.

The meeting was an opportunity to orientate the Heads of AFRIPOL NLO to all the aspects related to the operationalization of the African Police Communication System (AFSCOM). The training was also an important exercise for the Heads of AFRIPOL NLO to receive an induction on their key tasks and responsibilities.

 

The Second Meeting of the Steering Committee of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) was held, in Algiers, Algeria, on 11 July 2018.

The Executive Director Dr. Tarek A. Sharif, welcomed the Members to the Second meeting of the AFRIPOL Steering Committee, and to the AFRIPOL headquarters.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the decisions of the First General Assembly of AFRIPOL that was held in May 2017. It received an update from the Executive Director AFRIPOL on the progress made in the implementation of the AFRIPOL 3-Year Work Plan (2017-2019) and endorsed the agenda of the Second Ordinary Session of the AFRIPOL General Assembly, scheduled to be held in October 2018 in Algiers.

AFRIPOL held its second training of the Heads of AFRIPOL National Liaison Offices at its headquarters from the 10th to 11th July 2018.

The Executive Director of AFRIPOL, Dr Tarek A. Sharif opened the meeting and emphasized on the importance of the exercise in enhancing the capacities of the participants to tackle the various threats and challenges posed by transnational organized crime and terrorism to the security and stability of Africa.

The objective of the training was to introduce the focal persons who are in charge of the AFRIPOL National Liaison Office on their key tasks and responsibilities with respect to the effective functioning of the office. The workshop was also an opportunity to orientate the participants on the operationalization of the African Police Communication System (AFSECOM).

The participants also shared their experiences and made suggestions on how to strengthen the channels of communication between national police agencies within the framework of AFRIPOL.

New York: The President of the General Assembly of AFRIPOL H.E. Major General Abdelghani Hamel participated at the 2nd United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) 21-22 June, that took place in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations. The meeting was an important opportunity for the Chiefs of Police to discuss challenges such as transnational threats and reinforce police work within peace operations.
