24 March 2019- The Director General of the Algerian National Police (DGSN) and President of AFRIPOL General Assembly, H.E. Abdelkader Kara Bouhadba, visited AFRIPOL Secretariat headquarters. He was received by the AFRIPOL Executive Director Dr. Tarek A. Sharif.

The visit was an important occasion for the AFRIPOL President to learn about the efforts undertaken by the AFRIPOL Secretariat towards implementing its action plan.

 

On the 8th of March 2019 the Executive Director of AFRIPOL and the representative of the Chairperson of the Steering Committee visited Zambia AFRIPOL National Liaison office. The visit was a good opportunity to exchange views on the main tasks and responsibilities of the office.

The Fourth Meeting of the Steering Committee of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) was held in Lusaka, Zambia, from 7-8 March 2019. The meeting was chaired by Zambia, as the senior most member of the Steering Committee.

The meeting was attended by the following Members of the Steering Committee:

  1. Algeria(President)
  2. Uganda (First Vice President)
  • Central African Republic (Third Vice President)
  1. Zambia (Rapporteur, and current Chair of SARPCCO)
  2. Libya (NARC)
  3. Sudan (EAPCCO)
  • Gabon (representing chair of CAPCCO)
  • AU Commissioner for Peace and Security
  1. Executive Director AFRIPOL

 

The opening ceremony featured statement from the Commissioner for Peace and Security, H.E. Ambassador Zambia_3rd_meeting.jpgSmail Chergui, the representative of the Chairperson of the Steering Committee, Mr. Ferragh Ali, Director of Algerian Judicial Police and the Guest of Honor, Dr Chileshe Mulega, Home Affairs Permanent Secretary.

The meeting was an opportunity for the members of the Steering Committee to review the progress that AFRIPOL is making and exchanged views on ways to enhance police cooperation at regional and continental levels.

AFRIPOL participated at the 24th INTERPOL Africa Regional Conference that was held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 5-7 February 2019. H.E. Ambassador Samil Chergui, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, made an intervention by a video conference, on the key security challenges in Africa. The intervention was very much welcomed and appreciated by the conference. Also, the Executive Director of AFRIPOL Dr. Tarek a. Sharif, made an intervention in which he overviewed the need for enhanced cooperation among the African police agencies. He, further, highlight the context of the recently singed cooperation agreement between the INTERPOL and AFRIPOL.
