Algiers, 11 January 2018, H.E Major General Abdelghani Hamel, President of the General Assembly of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), calls for the strengthening of African police cooperation to fight against all forms of crime on the occasion of the 13th Ordinary Meeting of African Chiefs of Staff, held on 8 and 9 January 2018, at the headquarters of the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa/ Ethiopia.

In his speech, the President of AFRIPOL emphasized that this mechanism works to promote cooperation between African police institutions and strengthen the operational capabilities of law enforcement, at a time when the African continent faces multiple challenges and threats. He also stressed the importance of the AFSECOM Communication System and National Liaison Offices in promoting African police cooperation, in addition to the most important achievements made in coordination with East African police chiefs as well as than with Interpol.
On the sidelines of his participation in this important meeting, H.E Major General Abdelghani Hamel, President of the AFRIPOL General Assembly, met with H.E Moussa Faki Mohamed, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. He highlighted the role of this mechanism, highlighting the African Union's commitment to provide full support to AFRIPOL and to support it in achieving its goals. During this meeting, H.E Major General Abdelghani HAMEL confirmed that AFRIPOL developed a work program to address the threats facing the continent, including the proliferation of weapons, cybercrime and transnational organized crime in all its forms. He also emphasized the importance of training sessions organized by AFRIPOL to strengthen the capacities of African police forces.
