AFRIPOL and INTERPOL signed a cooperation agreement on 15 January 2019 at the INTERPOL General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon France.
The agreement is an important step towards formalizing AFRIPOL collaboration with INTERPOL to strengthen the cooperation in the area of combating criminal activities in the African region.
Also, the agreement will help AFRIPOL and INTERPOL to lay down the legal framework that shall govern the exchange of data and information.
With this agreement AFRIPOL Secretariat will have access to INTERPOL Communication System I 24/7, that will an able AFRIPOL to exchange messages with INTERPOL National Central Bureaus in African region.
The agreement was signed by INTERPOL Secretary General Dr. Jürgen Stock and AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui.
Ambassador Chergui was accompanied by AFRIPOL Executive Director, Dr Tarek Sharif and Mr Ali Ferragh, representing the President of the AFRIPOL General Assembly and General Director of the Algerian National Police.
The signing of this agreement is part of the implementation of AFRIPOL 3- year Work Plan 2017-2019, that was adopted by the 1st General Assembly of AFRIPOL that was held in May 2017.
