AFRIPOL and UNMAS Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

The African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) welcomed a delegation from the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) from 27 to 28 July 2026 at the AFRIPOL Secretariat to strengthen cooperation between the two organisations.

During the meeting, AFRIPOL and UNMAS agreed to work together on a joint action plan to combat Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Their cooperation will focus on sharing expertise, strengthening capacities, and improving coordination to address the threat of IEDs, which continue to affect civilian and military populations as well as critical infrastructure.

Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to working closely together to promote peace and security across the African Union Member States. This first meeting between AFRIPOL and UNMAS marks an important step towards stronger cooperation in addressing this common security challenge.
