A.U. Deputy Chairperson Meets AFRIPOL Secretariat and Reaffirms Support for Continental Police Cooperation

Algiers, Algeria | 29/03/2026 — H.E. the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union today met with the AFRIPOL Secretariat in Algiers to discuss the institution’s strategic role in advancing police cooperation and supporting member states in addressing transnational crime and emerging security threats across the continent.
During the meeting, the Secretariat highlighted AFRIPOL’s growing contribution to operational coordination, criminal intelligence, capacity building, and secure police communications in support of the African Union’s peace and security objectives. The discussions also underscored AFRIPOL’s importance as a continental mechanism for strengthening cooperation among African national police services, regional structures, and international policing organizations.
The meeting also explored ways to enhance institutional cooperation to support AFRIPOL in fully delivering on its mandate. In this context, follow-up actions were identified to further strengthen the institution’s capabilities and support its continued development.
This engagement reaffirmed the commitment of AUC leadership to strengthen African-led security institutions and to enhance AFRIPOL’s role as a central pillar of continental police cooperation.
