AFRIPOL’s Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting: Advancing Continental Security and Cooperation

On November 28, 2024, AFRIPOL convened virtually its Extraordinary General Assembly shared by Mr Douglas Kanja Kirocho, CBS, OGW, Inspector General National Police Service Kenya & President of the AFRIPOL General Assembly, bringing together 40 Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) or their representatives from African Union Member States. High-level participants from Regional Chiefs of Police Organizations including NARC, the Director of the Office of the Legal Counsel (OLC) of the African Union, representatives from HRMD of the AU, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security (PAPS) and AFRIPOL’s Acting Executive Director. This critical meeting served as a platform to align AFRIPOL’s mandate with Africa’s contemporary security challenges and bolster cooperation among member states.

The assembly approved key proposals, including amendments to AFRIPOL’s structure and statutes, aimed at enhancing its operational capacity and effectiveness. Discussions highlighted AFRIPOL’s essential role in addressing transnational organized crime, terrorism, and cybercrime while emphasizing the importance of resource mobilization and sustained collaboration. This virtual gathering marked a milestone in AFRIPOL’s strategic journey, reaffirming its commitment to building a safer and more secure Africa through united efforts and innovative approaches.
