12th session of AFRIPOL Steering Committee, October 29 to 30 in Algiers, Algeria

The African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation successfully convened its 12th Steering Committee meeting from October 29 to 30 in Algiers, Algeria, with a central focus on advancing security and deepening cooperation across the continent.

This two-day session provided a vital platform for discussing ways to strengthen communication channels and streamline information sharing among AFRIPOL members, ensuring that all member states can respond effectively and collaboratively to security threats. Participants examined strategies to enhance AFRIPOL’s operational approach in tackling transnational organized crime, terrorism, and cybercrime. The meeting underscored AFRIPOL’s commitment to fostering an integrated security framework for Africa, promoting cooperation among regional police forces, and aligning AFRIPOL’s efforts with continental security objectives to better address evolving security challenges across Africa.

The meeting saw the participation of Inspectors/ Directors General of Police, members of the Bureau of the General Assembly, representatives of regional police organizations in Africa as well as representatives of the Commissioner of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, the Bureau the AU Legal Council, the representative of the Human Resources department and the AFRIPOL Secretariat.
